Daily Magic – Antalya Edition: Ormana, Altınbeşik & Manavgat

If you’re in Antalya and think the sea is the only show in town… think again! Here’s a day trip idea that’s a true hidden gem—one that even some locals don’t have on their radar.

Ormana Village

Step 1: Grab a car (this one’s off the beaten track, so no dolmuş will save you)

Your destination? Düğmeli Evler—literally “Button Houses”—in the charming little village of Ormana. Why “button”? Because the wooden beams left sticking out during construction look like buttons on a coat. (Think Ottoman architecture meets fashion statement!) These historic beauties are a dream for photographers—and let’s be honest, for your Instagram feed too.

Don’t miss the village’s tiny kahvehane (coffeehouse), where the elders sip tea, play backgammon, and exchange daily gossip. (Warning: you will be tempted to join in.) Some of these button houses have even been transformed into cozy guesthouses—perfect for an overnight stay.

Step 2: Head to the Altınbeşik Cave—the third-largest underwater lake cave in Europe

This hidden wonder stretches 2,200 meters, with water depths of up to 15 meters, towering travertines, and even a natural rock bridge (now partially broken but still visible). You can only get there by shuttle bus from the designated parking area—hard hats required because, well, gravity.

Once inside, hop on the cave boat tour. You’ll float through crystal-clear waters, learn about its history, and probably say “wow” more times than you expect.

Step 3: On your way back, swing by the famous Manavgat Waterfall (about 50 km from the cave)

This wide, powerful beauty drops from just 3–4 meters, but it’s all about the flow (and the refreshingly chilly water). There’s a picnic area, tea gardens, and plenty of shady spots to relax—or, if you’re brave, a chance to dip your toes (or more) into the Manavgat River.

Pro Tip

This can be a perfect day trip or a laid-back overnight getaway. Pack your camera, your curiosity, and maybe a towel… because Antalya’s magic isn’t just by the sea.
